Fire Breaks Out At Storage Unit On US Rt 30: Officials (Photos)

A storage unit caught on fire in South Central Pennsylvania on Friday morning, Oct. 4, officials announced.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at 55West Loudon Street/Lincoln Way West/US Route 30 in Chambersburg Borough around 8:30 a.m., according to police and fire companies called to the scene. 

Numerous storage sheds burned, according to the Franklin Fire Company. "Hydrant failures have hindered operations," the company said, but by 9:30 a.m., "crews have secured a water source and the fire is under control."

The roadway was shut down between Federal Street and Sollenberger Road as well as at Grandview Avenue, according to borough police.

Drivers were asked to find alternate routes, and the public was asked to avoid the area. 

The area reopened around 11:20 a.m., according to an updated release by police. 

No injuries were reported. 

The cause of the fire remains unclear.
